She is married to her best friend and her hero, William Dauber at Grace UMC. Her children and granddaughter were baptized here at Grace. Grace Church has been her saving grace and she will forever be grateful to Grace and its members along with the congregation for what they have done for her. My name is Kjrsten Dorwart, and I am the Director and one of the 3 yr. Old teachers at Summit Learning Academy, and proud to call SLA my home. I have been teaching preschool for five years, a Special Olympics coach for the Ottawa Eagles for the past 10 years, and involved with the special needs community for the past 25 years. My husband and I also owned a business called Play4Today that specialized in the design and construction of soft-contained playgrounds for major fast-food restaurants across the United States.
I am a graduate of Illinois Valley Community College with a major in Early Childhood Education. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, even when I was young. Back then, I was diagnosed with several learning disabilities, which required the need for Special Education services. Due to my experience, I am committed to supporting students with disabilities who require self-advocacy skills for a successful future.
When I am not in the director chair or teaching, I enjoy being with my husband of 24 years, my three adult children, daughter-in-law, grandson, and our four dogs! I also read classic literature and crime novels, enjoy gardening, the great outdoors, watching professional wrestling, and I am an avid concert-goer.
